Zethu: This was one of the most amazing days of my life. Having a lady that has told African stories in a way that made me imagine myself being in that story is awesome. I still remember those days when I was only six years old and story time on SABC with Gcina Mhlope was a wonderful experience. She made the story alive by changing her voice to describe each character, acting out the story to show exactly what happened and of cause she sang in her stories. All her songs were so relavant to the story it made it even more fun to listen.
As a child I used to sit, glued to the Television, wishing that I was also one of those children who sat around her, listening to her tell the story right next to her. This is when I asked my older brother "how do you get inside the television"? He told me that I only had to open the back of the TV, squeeze myself to fit in and I would be there. Everyday I used to dream of opening the TV and getting in, just to sit next to her when she is telling stories.
Gcina Mhlope's visit to the University of Johannesburg made all these emotions come alive in me all over again. What else did you guys learn?
Hi ladies i also enjoyed the Gcina Mhlophe's presentation I was never exposed to story telling until I saw on TV and listened on the RADIO. It a previlage and an honour to be around her and let her sign my book also have aphoto with her.
ReplyDeleteThembi: It was the wonderful time I have ever had to be with the star of the world Mrs. Gcina Mhlophe and even take a photo with her. I like her voice. She is not afraid of being herself with that kind of voice. I was also encouraged in a sense that I must just be myself because I am unique.

ReplyDeleteI couldnt agree more with you it was a dream come true to me because i used to listen to her from the radio. seing her life was the best thing to me
sthembile:Gcina Mahlophe said that there is no different to all of us. We all have something beautiful to offer the world. We too can pick people up and take them on a journey with our own inspiring stories.
ReplyDeleteShe also said that we offer our gifts to the world rather than to let them hide within us.
Gcina also said that we must tell stories because they wake up stories in other people’s life.
